Does your intestinal system process biten off nails inside? Can you harvest Magnesium, Calcium or others by eating your fingernails or toenails? Is eating your fingernails nutritionally healthy?
Fingernails are mostly made up of the protein 伪-keratin, the same stuff that hair, wool and rhinoceros horns are made of. I imagine that after some vigorous digestion, your body could break nails down into amino acids, but the amount of protein you could actually metabolize and use from eating your nails is very very small.
But, there are some very good reasons for NOT eating your nails or putting your fingers in your mouth. Nail biting can wear down tooth enamel and cause damage to teeth. Also, the area under the fingernails is one of the dirtiest places on your body. Putting your hands in your mouth (without washing them first) is an excellent way to get sick and biting your nails only makes things worse.
In short, there might be some trace nutrients in fingernails, but the health risk far outweighs any possible benefit from eating your nails. Stick with food for your vitamins and minerals. Is eating your fingernails nutritionally healthy?
i heard that one time this lady ate fingernails so she would bite them off and then store them in this jar so when u she wanted one she would just take one out and chew on it

Unless you have figured a new way to do it, I wipe my butt with my fingers. No I don't think it is healthy.
They cannot be digested, so I don't see how you can access the 'nutrients' in them at all.
Only if you chew them really well or put them in a blender first. Even hair does not digest very well. (You can try this yourself if you like with the hair, but i don't recommend the fingernails, they are a little rough on the digestive system).
this is a wonderful question...I'm thinking no..but not 100 percent positive. I don't think they get digested at all, they just sit in your intestines for years. At least this is what i was ntold a few years ago by one of those nurses that promote colon cleansings!
NO! For starters the finger nail can not be digested it is likely to enter your appendix and cause it to become inflammed.
No.. they aren't really anything for your body. When you think about it.. by growing them out.. ur body is trying to get rid of them... dont reverse that by ingesting them lol.
They say it is because of calcium and magnesium defeciency in the body, people intend to eat fingernails.
It is a bad habit and an indication of low perception to their health situation. Better to see a doctor and a specialist if necessary.
Besides, your fingures will look clumsy and skin will look reddish and irritated.
get your mind checked!!:)
Well...i have this bad habit to bite my fingernails......
it is bad...yea.....
They say that it's bad because they don't get digested in fact they can harm your intestines, because they can scratch them since they are hard and pointed and then you will get a pain. They get stored in your apendix and if you don't want to suffer from appendix....you have to drink lots and lots of water to clear them. Not only the fingernails get stored in your apendix but even small seeds of fruit and vegetable.
So....this is my advise...drink lots and lots of water!
i hope that i've been of help! =)
