No, it's wrong!

It was on QI I think...Do you know , human hair and fingernails continue to grow after death?
Of course not. This is just an 'urban legend' made up by people who are ignorant of science.

After death, every homoeostatic mechanism the body ceases to function and every cell in the body stops working. When dead, a person is no different than a rock or object, the only difference being that it is decomposed (this process is done by certain bacteria and myces which are called Decomposers).
Myth: Hair and fingernails continue to grow after death

Fact: The phenomenon that hair and nails continue to grow has a serious spook factor -- but is just an illusion, said Dr. Kitha Griffin, a dermatologist in private practice in Atlanta. ';After death, the skin surrounding the hair and nails will shrink and decompose at a greater rate than the hair and nails themselves,'; she said.
The nail root is that portion of the nail embedded in the skin, lying very near the bone of the fingertip. Here, cells produce a stronger form of keratin than is found in hair. As new cells are formed, older cells are pushed forward, forming the nail body or the visible attached portion of the nail.

So new cells have to be forming to push the old cells forward. If someone has passed these cells are not being produced so no it doesnt happen.
No...hair and fingernails don't grow after death. Instead, our bodies dehydrate and our skin shrinks and tightens, pulling away from the hair and nails, creating the illusion of growth. Interestingly, funeral parlours put moisturiser on corpses to help reduce this effect.
No, this is a myth. Sometimes, as the body decomposes and shrinks, hair and fingernails appear to become longer, but it's really just the skin shrinking away from the scalp and fingers.
sry guyz but it's true.

our mind is dead but still some substances are in body. U can't controll growth of Your hair and fingernails, it's like flower. It will stop when it won't ahve any backgroud to get life substances...or when worms will eat Ya :D

This is a false statement. Hair and fingernails are made up of proteins. Once you die, you have no more intake of proteins to help continue the growth and build up of new hair and nails.
Friend,

No I really do not know, and still think it is probably wrong.

I will check with doctors and some people who are authoritative in this field and arrive at my opinion or form my opinion.
That's actually a myth. It only appears to continue to grow as the skin is dying off and all moisture in your body is getting released.
I was thinking that it is true but after clicking on the website given by 'horris99...'; I hav came to know the truth

I think his ans should b choosen as best ans
Even while living they develop from dead cells of the human.
I don't think that's true but I'm going to look it up. It doesn't logically make sense because when you die nothing should continue to grow.
nope ....if he dies he loses his breathing capacity and all the cells of his body will die then how the nails and hair will grow ? it's wrong
Your skin dehydrates and retracts which makes it look like your hair and nails grow.
The body decomposes to make it look like its been growing.
eeewww.......if so then we would all look like crap if you look at us after a while lol!

that is pretty grose and I think it's true.
YES ITS TRUE.BUT ITS GROW FOR SOME LIMITED PERIOD OF TIME AFTER DEATH.
It is false. It may appear that way, but it's not true
I heard that it was a myth.
Yes, I know that.
apparently it's a myth, they don't
if so i dont have to worry about it because i am going to be cremated:)
I dnt believe in dat .. craaap
